Many people suffer from red or purple blood vessels on the nose or cheeks, which are commonly called spider veins or thread veins. In reality these blood vessels are not veins but usually dilated capillaries.
Broken capillaries are part of the aging process, can be caused by over exposure to the sun or you may simply have a family predisposition to them. Most people feel their dilated/broken capillaries compromise their appearance and confidence.
Laser treatments are the treatment of choice for treating broken capillaries and spider veins on the face and nose. These can also be used on spider and small veins on the legs and body for patients who have not responded to sclerotherapy and also have light coloured skin.
How does it work?
Fotona SP Dynamis offers long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser which is the perfect solution for treating broken capillaries, as well as other vascular lesions such as haemangioma and port-wine stains. The energy from the laser is absorbed by the blood in the vessel, converted it into heat and the vessel walls are subsequently destroyed. In comparison with other wavelengths, which mainly affect the surface layers of a lesion, Nd:YAG light also targets the underlying vascular feeding system, which is important for ensuring the long-term efficacy the treatment. This process is perfectly safe as other healthy veins supply blood to the treated area and the body’s immune system clears away the dead tissue just as with a bruise.
How many sessions are required?
We usually recommend 1 to 3 sessions for the best results. This depends on the diagnosis and the size of the vessels. Results may vary between individuals.
Is laser vein/capillaries removal result permanent?
In most cases, the appearance of the vessels will be completely eliminated. However, the development of the new vessels cannot be prevented, these may require further treatment in the distant future.
Is this treatment painful?
Most patients experience minimal discomfort. Mild stinging sensation might be felt when laser energy hits on the skin. Numbing cream can be applied prior to the procedure to make it more comfortable.
What shall I expect following the treatment?
Most of the time the vessels are shut down immediately after the treatment. Occasionally the treated area will be slightly swollen, reddish and tender for a few days. Avoid any harsh skin cleansers and the use of sunscreen is essential.
Dark eye circles are a common complaint of both men and women, giving the appearance of tired eyes. In most cases, dark under eye circles are not a sign of a serious medical condition.
What causes dark circles?
Dark circles can be due to a number of reasons:
Excessive pigmentation in dark skinned people
Visible blood vessels in pale skinned individuals
Hormonal causes such as pregnancy or the contraceptive pill
Nasal congestion. When your nose is congested, veins that usually drain from your eyes into your nose become widened (dilated) and darker. The skin under the eye is very thin which means that the blood vessels under the eye can be more noticeable.
Hollow under eyes - many people complain about dark circles under the eyes. Quite often this is due to a 'dip' or 'trough' under the eye that casts a shadow and gives a tired look. This hollow or ridge running from the inner corner of the eye is known as a Tear Trough. This condition can be hereditary, part of the normal aging process, or following lower eyelid surgery when too much fat has been removed;
Combinations of the above.
What can we do for dark eye circles?
Laser Toning under eyes - Pigmentation on the under eye area can be corrected by Q-switched Nd YAG laser, which breakdown the melanin and lighten the dark eye circles after several treatments. Besides, the laser will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and stimulate collagen regeneration, which subsequently reduce the visibility of the underlying blood vessels with thicker skin.
Professional Chemical Peel - Chemical peels are not routinely applied around the eye area as the skin here is much thinner than other part of the face. Enerpeel EL is a unique formulated chemical peel specifically for the eye region (and the lips). It is gentle enough and can be applied on the upper eye lids.
Dermal filler - Hollow and dark circles under the eyes can make you look exhausted all the time and are caused by lack of 'padding' under the eyes. Injection of Juvederm hyaluronic acid dermal filler to the 'tear trough' area adds substance between the upper layer of skin and underlying tissues reducing the dark appearance.
Puresense Luminosity under eyes - using Teosyal Puresense Redensity I. This is a new treatment concept between dermal filler and mesotherapy, which redensifies your skin deep down and intensely hydrates the crepey line-filled under eye skin instantly. Its patented Dermo-Restructuring Complex encourages the synthesis of skin-lightening agent --glutathione, your great helper to fight for discolouration on the under eye area. This treatment can be done on your face and neck too!
Neostrata Skin Active Intensive Eye Therapy - an eye gel for home use with unique formula that employs a multi-mechanistic approach to building and plumping the delicate skin in the eye area.
Until recently, the only way to fight the effects of time, such as sagging and loosening of the facial skin, involved invasive treatments or surgical facelifts. While effective, these options can create an obvious, unnatural appearance and unnecessary downtime.
Laser skin tightening is a viable alternative for people who are not ready for or who do not need invasive cosmetic surgery. Laser skin tightening has none of the expense, risk, and downtime associated with surgical cosmetic facial procedures.
What is Laser Skin Tightening?
Laser skin tightening is a non-invasive, non-surgical process that uses long pulsed Nd:YAG laser to tighten skin by heating the collagen under the skin’s surface, which causes the skin to contract and also stimulates the production of new collagen. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles and loose skin for a more youthful appearance.
Laser skin tightening rejuvenates the skin by heating the deeper layers of collagen under the skin, while simultaneously cooling the skin’s outer layers, by using Fotona SP Dynamis laser machine. The effect of laser skin tightening is noticeable immediately after the treatment, with additional tightening occurring over the following months as more new collagen is produced to support the facial tissues and create a younger, smoother facial appearance.
Who should go for this treatment?
Laser Skin Tightening is recommended for those:
Have loose and sagging skin around the face and neck
Have mild to moderate wrinkles
Want to improve the appearance of their skin without undergoing invasive cosmetic procedures
How many sessions are needed? How often?
Average 4 to 6 sessions, once every 3 to 4 weeks, will be required for a satisfying result.
Is the treatment painful? Is it safe?
The treatment is very comfortable after some numbing cream prior to the procedure and cryogen will be used to cool the skin during the treatment. It is safe for most skin types except very dark skin tone.
Possible rare complications include bruising, blistering, hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) and hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin).
Is there any downtime after the treatment?
Immediately following the laser skin tightening treatment, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. These conditions should resolve within a few hours. There is little or no downtime, and you should be able to return to work and normal activities immediately.
How soon can I see some result?
You will be to feel the skin tightened immediately after the treatment. Your skin will be firmer and the skin texture will improve over the next 2 to 3 months as the collagen regenerated.
What do I need to avoid before and after the treatment?
It is very important to minimise sun exposure 2 weeks before and after the treatment. You should also follow the post treatment protocol carefully, which will be provided after the treatment. Certain skincare products such as acidic and Vitamin A creams need to be avoided for 3 to 5 days after the treatment.

Even though we are trying so hard to stay looking young, our real age can be revealed by the look of our aging hands. Our hands, with the seeping sands of time, are continuously subjected to the damaging effects of the environment, and these everyday strains of wear and tear can have a significant effect on their premature aging over time.
Long-term exposure to sun can leave brownish discolorations spots. Skin becomes thinner with advancing years. Veins at the back of hands become dilated and more visible. With aging we lose fat and skin thickness, which makes the hands look bony and unattractive. The small joints of hands undergo wear and tear, and this can cause the knuckles to become thickened and unsightly.
Hands Volume Restoration
By injecting the cutting age hyaluronic acid dermal fillers Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Hydrate, we give the hands back their volume, we hide the veins and once again give hands their elasticity of youth.
The treatments are quick and painless. They are performed through small needles. The procedure takes 15 to 30 minutes to restore volume. 3 treatments, with interval of 2 weeks between each treatment are necessary. We hence induce your skin to produce natural collagen, and the final results are truly great.
Removal of age spots on hands
Age spots, liver spots and sun spots not only appear on our face, but also on our hands. Same as treatment on the face, Fotona QX MAX is the ideal solution for this problem as its Q-switched Nd:YAG laser can safely and effectively targeting the melanin pigments. The results—a pair of youthful hands that able to hide your actual age!
4 to 6 sessions with interval of 3 to 4 weeks in between each treatment is recommended to achieve an optimal result. Sunblock needs to be applied religiously on the back of your hands during daytime throughout the course of treatments.
Almost our entire body is covered with hair. Most of it is fine and pale, however, we almost all have unsightly darker, coarse hair in places we wouldn’t want or expect. It may be a question of aesthetics or hygiene. In any case, this excess body hair (or facial hair) is often considered as embarrassing and bothersome, especially in places like legs, bikini line, neck, arms, underarms, chest and back.
No one really wants to have more discomfort, ingrown hair and irritated or infected skin, which is the usual consequence of shaving, plucking, waxing…and it has to be repeated over and over again. Therefore, laser hair removal if becoming more and more mainstream with women as well as men; it is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in practices all over the world.
Laser hair removal is a much faster and more efficient procedure than most other possible treatments, namely Intense pulsed light (IPL) and electrolysis hair removal.
How does it work?
Laser light targets hair follicles and eliminates or significantly impedes hair from growing back. The deep penetration of Nd:YAG laser from Fotona SP Dynamis ensures it reaches even the deepest follicles, while its low absorption in all skin types makes sure the surrounding tissue is preserved. However, darker skin types have a higher risk of developing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation after the treatment.
Is the procedure painful?
It is not painful, but some may experience minor discomfort while treating on certain sensitive areas. Numbing cream will be applied prior to the procedure and cooling air will be applied simultaneously with the laser to ensure the comfort of the patients.
How many sessions do I need for laser hair removal?
As hair grows in cycles and not all of body hair is in the same stages at a time, it takes a few treatments for complete removal. The outcome also depends on hair quality, number of hair follicles, different metabolism and hormonal level of each individual, but it usually takes about 4 to 6 sessions to remove all the hair.
What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen for a few hours or less. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair.Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.
Do you rely on thick foundation or concealer to hide your blemishes or brown marks on your skin?
Many of us have brown spots or marks on our skin which can sometimes cause concerns about our appearance.
Skin aging caused by long-term sun exposure, facial blemishes due to excessive pigmentation and, in general, imperfections caused by melanin, are more and more common, especially among Asians.
Types of pigmentation
Brown spots, liver spots, age spots, sun spots, freckles, lentigos, or senile/solar lentigines are associated with premature aging and exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. These marks range in colour from light brown to red or black and are located in areas most often exposed to the sun, particularly the hands, face, shoulders, arms, decollete and forehead, and the head if bald. Most are harmless, but all are aging and may be unattractive.
Café au lait, Nevus of Ota and other pigmented birthmarks are localised areas of increased pigmentation in the skin, which are present at birth.
Melasma, also called ‘chloasma’, is a common skin condition of adults in which light to dark brown or greyish pigmentation develops, mainly on the face. The name comes from melas, the Greek word for black. Although it can affect both genders and any race, it is more common in women and people with darker skin-types who live in sunny climates. Melasma usually becomes more noticeable in the summer and improves during the winter months. It is not an infection, it is not contagious and it is not due to an allergy.
How do we treat pigmentations?
Professional chemical peels: These are solutions applied to the face which cause gentle exfoliation of the superficial layers of the skin. This stimulates skin regeneration and helps lighten pigmentation and improves texture. Peels used to treat pigmentation include glycolic acid, lactic acid and trichloroacetic acid.
SilkPeel Dermalinfusion : It is a procedure in which the outermost layer of dead skin cells is mechanically exfoliated, carrying with it some of the pigment-containing cells. This is coupled with dermalinfusion of Brightening Solution which features the revolutionary Lumixyl peptide, effectively lighten up uneven pigmentation and dark spots. About 8-10 sessions may be needed bimonthly, and thereafter maintenance sessions.
Pigment Laser - Fotona QX MAX’s Q-switched Nd:YAG laser works by destroying the pigment in the skin without the need for excision. The laser produces short pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by melanin in the lesion. These melanin are subsequently broken into smaller particles, which are then removed by the body’s own immune system. There is minimal discomfort with no downtime. Multiple sessions are needed and treatment intervals may vary from 1-4 weeks.
Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is a new form of regenerative medicine that utilized your own blood, where the platelet rich plasma component is extracted, concentrated and reintroduced to rejuvenate the skin. The concentrated platelets in PRP contain tremendous amounts of bioactive proteins and growth factors, which promote tissue repair, capillary formation and collagen production. PRP is effective for treating pigmentations, as well as fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scars and saggy skin on face and neck.
Some pigmentations especially melasma can be worsen by sun exposure. Broad-spectrum fragrance-free sunscreens, with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or greater and a high ultraviolet A (UVA) star-rating, should be applied daily throughout the year.
As your skin ages it begins to lose its ability to stretch and results in loose sagging and wrinkled skin. Sagging skin also appears when there has been a significant weight loss and also as a result of gravity over time. As we age we lose volume in our face from the loss of collagen and elastin and we are left with loose, sagging skin. Loose, sagging skin was once only treated by facelifts or surgery as there were no other options for wrinkled, aged skin.
Loose sagging skin treatments today have improved so much that these sagging treatments do not need surgery but can be accomplished with non-surgical methods:
RF Venus Lift
RF (radiofrequency) Venus Lift treatment is the latest treatment for improving skin tone. This non-ablative treatment means that little or no downtime is required for the patient. Using ultra-safe radiofrequency, RF Venus Lift can reduce wrinkles, and can tighten the skin on the cheeks, jowl lines, and neck area. RF works by stimulation of collagen and improving lymphatic flow of your skin.
Laser Skin Tightening
Laser Skin Tightening with long pulsed Nd: YAG generally works by stimulating the production of collagen, that magic substance which allows our skin to remain taut and supple. Effects of the sagging skin laser treatments on the collagen layer continue long after the first treatment so you will see a gradual tightening over time.
The absorbable suture of Silhouette Soft thread lift provide immediate lifting effect, whereas the polylactic acid (PLLA) component of the thread stimulate the regeneration of the collagen. Therefore, the face instantly lifted right after the treatment and will be even better in the following months as the collagen grew.
As we grow older, skin loses moisture and elasticity. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm Voluma and Juvederm Ultra Plus are increasingly being used by men and women who want to subtly add volume in a natural way. Adding volume in the cheeks, temples, under eyes and laugh lines will taut the sagging skin and provide lifting effects. Dermal fillers can be a great stand-alone treatment to restore aging, sagging skin, or they can serve as an adjunct to Ultherapy and other anti-aging treatments.
One of the hallmark signs of aging is the presence of static wrinkles or wrinkles at rest with no facial expressions. All static wrinkles start out as dynamic wrinkles or wrinkles with facial expression such as squinting or smiling. With time these lines become etched into the skin and are visible at rest. These wrinkles often appear on the forehead, between the brows, around the eyes, around the mouth and on the neck. Botulinum toxin such as BOTOX and Dysport injections are a great way to prevent the movement of dynamic wrinkles before they become etched into the skin.
While injecting botulinum toxin on these areas, we notice there are subtle brow and forehead lifting effect sufficient to provide a more refreshed look to some people.
At MBC, we often recommend the combination of various treatment options mentioned above to yield the synergistic 3D lifting effect of these treatments.
Stretch marks or striae are caused by rapid stretching of the skin. Commonly seen after pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss, or rapid growth during adolescence, stretch marks initially present as red or purple marks. They are in fact “scars” caused by over-stretching of the elastic middle layer of the skin known as the dermis. Over time these reddish stretch marks fade to leave silver or white streaks which may also feel crepey to touch.
Stretch marks treatment can provide some excellent benefits in terms of your physical health and self-worth as well as your emotional well-being.
One of the most exciting applications of fractional Erbium YAG laser is for stretch marks removal. A recent pilot study of 20 patients showed significant improvement in the appearance and texture of mature (white) stretch marks after 3 treatments were performed on moderate settings. Redness in the treated areas does seem to persist a little longer on the body than in the face, however this fades in time. The fractional laser works by increasing the number of collagen and elastin fibres.
At MBC, we perform laser skin tightening by using Nd YAG laser prior to the fractional Erbium YAG laser. A laser beam is passed under the skin to heat up collagen fibres inducing the formation of new collagen. The formation of new collagen helps the skin to contract. The laser energy can be seen as “kick-starting” a natural healing process that helps to stimulate fresh, healthy tissue, resulting in smoother skin. Patients report a greater than 50% improvement in the appearance of their stretch marks.
RF Venus Sculpt
RF Venus Sculpt uses a magnetic pulse component that induces the release of growth factors required for the sprouting of new blood vessels and the rapid growth of skin cells. The radio frequency component induces collagen and elastin production by creating controlled damage and triggering the skin's healing process.
The intended result is more vital, toned and healthy looking skin with improved elasticity and texture.
It is especially suitable for those with darker skin tone as unlike lasers, radio frequency is “colour blind” and the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is minimal. Several sessions, average 8 to 10 weekly treatments will be required for optimal result.
Platelet Rich Plasma
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is blood plasma that contains a high concentration of platelets which activate collagen production in the skin. At the start of this treatment we take a small amount of your blood, put it in a test tube and then spin it in a centrifuge. As your red and white cells fall to the bottom the platelets contained in your blood rise to the top in the form of a golden liquid. This substance that is referred to as PRP is your plasma which is made up of platelets that are rich in growth factors. When these growth factors are injected under the skin they stimulate the stem cells which induces collagen formation, thereby tightening the skin.
